The judges were once again delighted with the quality of the entries for this year's award. We were once again faced with the difficult process of narrowing down some really wonderful applications to just one winner. A lot of cake was involved this year too...there seems to be a theme developing!
This year's winning application came from Katie Hardwick and Leyla Rees for an aerial silks duet on a new piece of a equipment. The judges loved the novel use of equipment and were really impressed by clarity and creativity displayed in the application.
"I'm delighted with our selection. It's fantastic to know that we are able to support such a promising duo and I'm sure Emma would be very proud of what we are doing. I can't wait to see the finished act!" Nikki Insley, Judge and Emma's sister
2009/2010 was our first year. The fund received more than 65 applications for the award. The scope and creativity displayed in the applications was truly fantastic. We were deeply impressed by the level of creative energy and talent on display by all.
The massive task of narrowing the selection down to just one winner took many hours. The 10 judges – performers, riggers, teachers, producers and family members – met on Saturday 6th March and, after plenty of coffee and cake, came to out decision… well we managed to narrow it down to two acts.
This first of our winners were Jessie and Lisa. This doubles trapeze act impressed us with their tenacity and enthusiasm to succeed despite the challenges that had been thrown at them so far.
Our second winner was Amy. Her application for a hoop act was well considered and excited the judges in it’s scope and potential.
